A/N: This story takes place within canon, and is a take on what happened to Peridot before and after Joy Ride.

-Right before the ending of Jail Break-

Peridot had successfully escaped the hand shaped ship despite Amethyst tying her with her whip. As her escape pod hurdled down to the blue planet below, she thought to herself, "My chances seems low. But I'll finish this mission for the GLORY OF THINE GOLDEN DIAMOND!"

She was shocked that Steven had resisted the Gem Destabilizer enough to move, let alone withstand it. As she was lost in her thoughts, she crashed into a cornfield right near Beach City to her surprise.

-Before the events of Joy Ride-

The impact of the crash caused Peridot to hit her head and her gem on the dashboard. That activated the ejector seat sending Peridot flying out of the ship and landed into the cornfield. She was injured from the blow to the "gems" and being launched into the cold hard ground. She staggered to her feet and struggled to move, the pain gnawing at her body.

"Curse those Crystal Clods and that Steven!" She thought to herself collapsing to the ground shouting, "Damned Clods!"

She struggled to crawl before slipping into a bit of unconsciousness not too from away from a group of humans arriving with everyone's favorite gem child.

-After the events of Joy Ride-

Peridot awoke still weakened from her injuries. She dragged herself to her escape pod to find it wrecked and completely useless to her. She wanted to scream, with no robonoids or any limb enhancers, she was south of uselessness. She struggled to move further away from the broken pod. However, it was in vain as she fell to her knees due her gem wigging out. She felt like a failure to her mission, to Yellow Diamond, and her homeworld. Poor, poor, Peridot...

Meanwhile, Steven was being driven home by the Cool Kids along with the Crystal Gems. Steven seemed quite relived, but something was bothering him. Buck Dewey noticed this and asked, "Hey Steven, something's bothering you?"

"Yeah, I just realized. The pod wasn't completely thrashed when we found it. Why would Peridot ditch it, and where is she?" Steven said sparking a stunned silence among them all.

"Not to make things worse, but whoever she is, is within driving distance of Beach City." Jenny said breaking the distance. "She isn't a threat, isn't she?"

This gave worry to the Gems, and Pearl had the look of "Oh crap!" on her face. Jenny took that a yes. Garnet began to think on it, and soon the group arrived back in town. Steven got out first and said, "Thanks for the joyride, guys. I needed it."

"Catch you later, Steven. Try not to get wasted!" Jenny said as she and the cool kids drove off.

As the group returned home, Amethyst went for the fridge for something, shuffling through it for something. She told out the milk, drank the carton, and then went to her room all with a completely drained look.

"We need to do something about this. We can't just have Peridot out running around out there." Pearl said to Garnet.

"I know, Pearl. But we'll have to deal with it tomorrow morning, it would best to search then." Garnet responded. "Steven will be more resting, and sleep sounds good right now."

Still looking like a worrywart, Pearl went to her room to meditate. As for Garnet, she hugged Steven goodnight leaving for her room. However, she just decided to crash on the couch. Steven locked the door, and then got to his own bed slipping into sleep for the moment. Quite the predicament for the Gems, Malachite is right outside their door and a green alien running around. How are they going to stop this? Sugar, spice, and everything Burnett will tell, some day.

My second take on a Steven Universe plot point, this one was quite quick in the making. I did like the idea of exploring what had happened to Peridot in Joy Ride.

I think I may even write another, who knows?
